Re: Paugho frame for 45"
I don't see any reason why it can't be completed as detailed here, there are no conflicts or incompatible bits, just a lot of work.

"...if there is any"
You are a ray of sunshine, Dog.
What you call a can of worms is what I do for fun and satisfaction.
A little progress, I've had no time until lately. I've got her up on wheels. Picture:
The Buell fork fit nicely but it kind of requires the Buell 16" wheel. It'll do for now.
and it's not on backwards - they turn on a bearing in case you have a trans with reverse.
Robbie live some 2000 miles from me, so no, he's not building it.
I hope you all continue to follow and advise. I hate asking for help in general but it seems I hit a snag almost every step. Picture:
Still gathering Trans parts. I'll start assembly soon.

One step at a time. Get the major drive train parts fitted up and installed in place, then the rest of it will just be details.

Re: Paugho frame for 45"
Good advice.
I'm not sure what year transmission or clutch I'm assembling exactly or for what model as the Paugho project mixes the 45" engine with the BT transmission. But I'm forging ahead.
Here's a question. How are the little hats supposed to fit on the fingers?
My fingers measure about 2 thous bigger than my hats!
finger is #34165-36 and roller is 34168-39

That makes sense. Somethings wrong. These are V Twin parts.
The finger is .289" and the roller is .287"!

Make sure the Hat Rollers fits in the Grooves in the Shifting Drum with minimal amount of slop.
If that fit is OK, then enlarge the Hat Roller Bushings until they fit the fingers.

Re: Paugho frame for 45"
Good idea. Yeah I enlarged the hats with a little dremel stone in my drill press.
The fit in the top is good. If anything a little too tight for one of them. One is wider than the other.
I guess this is the reality with some aftermarket parts.

Re: Paugho frame for 45"
Just wondering, did you check with you friendly local Harley-Davidson dealership? # 34168-52
They were used on Sportsters up until 1990, may still be a good number.....

Re: Paugho frame for 45"
The -39 number used on Big Twins, and the -52 number used on Sportsters are different lengths. They generally interchange but BT don't work on a Sportster or a Cow pie with flat plate cams.

Re: Paugho frame for 45"
Never stepped foot in a Harley dealer. There are 3 all about 20 miles from me.
I'm having fairly good luck finding NOS but not in this case.

Re: Paugho frame for 45"
Finding a good. knowledgeable parts guy at a dealership can be a daunting experience, but there are a few still around.
It is best to do your own research, and have the OE part numbers in hand. Do not let them do the looking up for you, no telling what they'll come up with.
Also, if there is one dealership with satellite stores, try the main branch first, as that is often where the brain lives, with the newbs at the sats....

Re: Paugho frame for 45"
Don't spare money or effort here, sloppy shifting will bother you every time you ride the bike.
